Function

Plants are active participants in their effort to obtain the nutrients they need. Plants secrete a liquid from their roots into the soil called Root Exudates.

Science now understands the purpose of root exudates is to stimulate friendly rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza in the soil. These beneficial organisms help the plant increase the absorption of nutrients, especially nitrogen.

It is natures design that plants form a partnership with beneficial rhizobacteria and mycorrhiza. The problem is most plants do not produce adequate quantities of root exudates.

NEB is a blend of root exudates, naturally derived from plants. NEB is organic, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. NEB works in harmony with nature, helping the plant reach its full potential by more efficiently utilizing available nutrients.

Highlights from the report are below.

Root Exudates

  • Plants form partnerships with beneficial microbes and mycorrhiza

  • Plants encourage this partnership by secreting root exudates

  • Root exudates stimulate beneficial microbes and mycorrhiza

Microbes:

How do root exudates stimulate microbes?

  • Root exudates eliminate bad microbes

  • More nutrients and space are available for good microbes

  • Good microbes quickly increase in population

Mychorriza:

How do root exudates stimulate mycorrhiza?

  • Mychorriza are a beneficial fungus that partners with the plant

  • Hyphae are root-like structures of the mychorriza

  • Root exudates increase branching of the hyphae

  • Root exudates increase branching of the hyphae

Benefit of Microbes:

Nitrogen Availability

  • Leaching and Denitrification are significant loses of nitrogen

  • Nitrogen is unavailable to the plant

Result

  • Fertilizer quickly becomes unavailable (not absorbed by the plant)

  • Fertilizer absorption is inefficient

Nitrogen availability with NEB

  • NEB increases beneficial microbial populations

  • Microbes consume excess N that would have been lost to leaching or denitrification

  • Nitrogen is released and available to the plant as the microbes die

Result

  • More Nitrogen is available

  • More consistent supply of Nitrogen available (slow release affect)

Benefit of Mycorrhiza:

  • Root-like hyphae capture more nutrients

  • More nutrients are available to the plant

Summary

  • Plants secrete root exudates to increase beneficial microbes and mycorrhiza

  • NEB is a blend of beneficial root exudates
  • NEB works in harmony with nature, helping the plant accomplish the goal of mutually beneficial relationships with microbes and mycorrhiza

  • NEB is natural, effective and profitable
